What started out as a road trip to the 2012 Quiksilver Pro with 3 amped groms and Sunnycoast frother Joshy Lev, ended us up as a hot scorching day on a remote island, lost without a compass. If it was'nt for uncrowded beachies and some edible cacti plants we found then we may have never lived to tell the story!!!

Brent Dorrington: 'Lil Waynne Got Skills'.
Brenno got dropped by his major sponsor Oakley of recent and even though this may be looking like the end of a long road to some and yet another ex-spono destined for the mine shafts of Western Australia; After speaking to Brenno the other day he has got the outlook of a brother unfazed!!! Brenno is still as amped as ever before and currently looking to form new relationships with big time surf labels in order to launch his next assault on the surfing world. Brenno would have to be one of the most talented surfers i've filmed and a funny little bloke to go with it.

I'm sure this minor set back will only make him more hungry then ever before and prepell him even further towards his surfing goals in the days ahead. Last words concerning Brenno: He loves a Ginger Beer Tally. A deep road trip down South with Stevo and a head crease from Staffington whilst driving on the Kirra foot path in a Nissan Pulsar!!! He also owes me $100 bucks from all the GB's i've shouted him. lol

Noosa Points Xmas weekend 2011.

Here's what Tea Tree was doing on the 23rd and what Nationals was doing on the 26th of December!!! There was around 4586 people out and counting... No Parks, loads of sun scorched frothers and hundreds of groms test driving there new shooters. I missed Xmas day (which was apparently pumping) as i was down south feeding my face at my sisters house with the family. Any way here's what I got perched on the rocks in my sombrero...

Kai texted me friday afternoon seeing if i was keen to film Wurtulla early saturday morning. I'd been meaning to catch up and film him for a while now and i had the morning free so i packed the family and the gear in the car and got on the highway Wurtulla bound!!!
It was good to finally meet Kai and his family, watch the Pipe Masters live on there big screen TV and go for a tour whilst sipping on a cup of bushells from mother Jenny as i checked out there beach palace. It was a rainy day out Wurtulla but there was still some decent size waves around from the mid week swell. Was good to see Goodall and the Dugg Daughter getting a couple also. Time was limited but the crew made the most of it before i had to split....

To be honest when i think of Mick Fanning i think of some of the most painfull times of my life. Joining Kirra board riders at the age of 14 and coming from an upbringing where i was tought to jam the guy that gave me lip, my first encounter with Sean and Mick Fanning was at a club round over at South Wall Fingal. So I was young and brash and new nothing of club round edicate, in saying that i decided to surf in the contest area while these guys where competing to win the biggest club round heat of their grommet hood careers.

So after the heat had commenced the show down began. Although I stood alone i was a fiery young lad that had plenty of arsenal in my proverbial riffle. As time went on i became good friends with Sean and Mick and although Sean's unexpected passing brought much pain, rebellion and tears to my soul I've only but watched Mick rise to the top of the surfing world. And although i miss jump starting Sean's green mini and the early morning dawn patrols with the boys out D'bah I will always remember the all day wright off sessions in boundary lane and the many good times we shared.

Mick Fanning the grommet i once knew has now become the 2 x world champ and the fastest player in the WCT game. As you can see below Micks got enough tricks to leave even the novice startled.

Aldos Bay

Aldos Bay is a little bay,
we stumbled across one day.
The waves where grinding under the sun,
so i rolled some klips and had mad fun.

Aldos Bay does'nt break very often. It needs a huge swell and banks to form. But when they do it makes a grand little platform to film some new skool action!!!

Last week the wind was howling but the waves where suprisingly fun.
Bart 'Big Cat' Criaco brother of Eli Criaco (Natural footer in the video below)
gave me a call and offered to film. Been a while since i'd had klips and it's always
good (ok sometimes depressing) to see how your surfing. So i took him up on the offer
and we hunted down some fun beachies at Alexandra Headlands and Coolum.
Most of the footage was taken on Barts handycam with no tripod. Was exciting to watch
young Junior Flare Smacking, Drifting and flying above the lip line and even better not to be
the one filming for a change. Was chooped up and pretty grovely but it's always good to get wet...

Asher Pacey: Well what can i say, "He's mellow, REAL mellow" When he wants to surf or go film he'll find you. Otherwise he's most probabley wetting a line somewhere around the tweed, sleeping or hanging with his ladie.

The Shaun Cansdell / JR Board Test.

After much conversation and many false alarms the elements finally aligned for me to head to the Gold Coast and piece together a webmercial of Shaun Cansdell for the new JR (Jason Rodd) board range. Here's how the day unfolded: JR rings me at 6:45am from Gloria Jeans, he tells me that: "Cansdells car is bogged in Lennox heads at the back of Ryan Kennys place". So finally after commiting myself to a day of uncertainty we arrive at what I thought was going to be a house, but instead was a full size sand stone castle like something out of the movie Knights in Shining Armour. After quizing Cansdell about the place he tells me that it's Kenny's parent's abode. Kenny's place was out the back and a tidy little chateux it was, I must say!!!

Next we jumped into Roddy's car, only to find Cansdell's car well and truly wedged in front of a rusty, prehistoric looking piece of farm equipment down a narrow grass alley which Cans seemed to think would make a good back entry to Ryans place. After much persuasion JR and I finally convinced Cans that there's still hope for his car and to get back to the rescue mission after the surf. Next we headed for Boulders where we met young Eli Steele. The waves were pumping, the boys where ripping, local boy Stephen Walsh was carving like a hot knife through butter and Roddy was stoked and couldn't have asked for better waves to do a board test in... After the surf we where all starving to say the least, JR had a burst of love from above and decided to take the boys out to Yellow Flower Indian in Suffolk Park where we completely damaged ourselves, exquisite Indian buffet style. So all in all it was an epic day with great waves, but i do hope Cans got his car out..?

Jack freestone the young man from the Galaxy who loves a managers breakfast. Always keen to surf even more keen to film, loves a laugh but he's got his game face on and a serious disposition when it comes to competitive surfing.
Who knows the World Junior champ may one day become the WCT champ, at this rate who can stop him!!! Watch the kid explode below in pretty much every klip we got over the past few years...

Got an early call from my long time friend and client Luke Jory. Luke and the boys had been up to DI the day before and scored real fun waves, so we locked in some quality film time. The day was spectacular, so we packed the 4wd with boards cameras and i even ended up taking the family. While most where working we where living it up DI style...

Joel Parkinson.

Growing up across the street from Parko and stumbling through our adolescent years in the same group of friends, I found Joel to be an explosive character both in and out of the water. I still remember the first time i wandered across the street with Dingo to check out Joel's new pad (Joel had just moved to Kirra Hill from Moffats Beach on the Sunshine Coast). Parko's room was full of brand new boards and a vast array of clothing and life size Polypropylene posters of him ripping the bag; from where i stood as a young aspirer to the surfing world, Joel was destined for great things and one had only to watch him surf a heat in a club round to understand this.

When our good mate Sean Fanning (who was also working for my dad at the time), passed away i saw a change in Joel, i saw a big change in all of us Coolangatta rascals. We all became a little more appreciative of this thing called life (well I most certainly did). A party that i hosted in my mum and dad's beachfront unit shortly after Shaun's passing comes to my mind: Joel had just recieved a brand new custom quiver, but due to the confusion, mixed emotions and intoxicated pain that we all felt at the passing of our close friend we all decided at Joels lead to jump up and down on His freshly posca penned board which just took one of the lads over 2 hours to paint a figment of Joels immagination on the bottom of (Joel as an italian chef). Anyways Joel never got the pleasure of riding that board for obvious reasons, but im well sure that he has had plenty since then.

As time goes on we all grow up, get families of our own and go our different ways, but from where i sit Joel's talent as a surfer has ever increased, Parko is great to watch and his laid back aggresion on a wave never ceases to amaze me. Watch for yourself below and you will know exactly what i am talking about... Enjoy the show :)

Josh Kerr.

Josh Kerr, Kerrazy, Keronicles he goes by many names but when it comes to surfing the thing he's most known for is 'Kerazee air time'. Growing up in the same town as Josh and hanging together in our younger years i witnessed the metamorphasis of Josh into the aerial expertise that he has now become. Watching Kerrzys continual attempts at flying over and above the lip line as a grom would often draw mixed remarks from those around him, expessialy his mates.

As the new skool can often be ridiculled by the old skool: some would say "All that Josh guy does is airs"; "Why does'nt that guy ever do a turn", others would even call him "Ratboy" nick naming him after santa cruizes up and coming trickster "Jason 'Ratboy' Collins". But the thing that made many realise Josh's new skool talent (besides the fact that we could'nt do half of the stuff that he was in the water) was the footage from an old freind of mine Benny G. Benny G used to follow Kerrzy all over the country side and capture his new skool activity on camera. Benny used to roll back in to town with insane footage of Josh doing massive airs. One time Benny was like: "hey check this thing out", showing us an air he had just captured of Josh at a contest down south. I still remember huddeling around Bennys camera watching what appeared to be a guy with a red rash shirt in his mouth, as Joshs heat had just ended and on his wave in he launched an air reverse around 6ft high but landed it clean on the flats, was a real sight to witness back then as there was'nt a lot of this being done.

Anyways these are just some of my fond memories growing up around Coolangatta and watching Kerrzy develope into the surfer and aerial expert that he has now become. Good one bruva, keep it coming...

Tea Tree Geographics.

After waking up too a stuning morning this morning i decided that i would head to Noosa and go for a paddle and maybe a quick film around at Tea Tree. Due to scoring some really fun waves the afternoon before all was looking good for a fun morning of surf and sunshine. But as the story goes the wind had turned to the wrong direction and the swell had decreased to almost non existent. So i did'nt end up surfing at all but rather admired the beauty of God's creation and did the work of a Tea Tree Geographist......

Clay Marzo.

Clay Marzo: The Surfing Savant, Arial wiz kid, Intrevert, Ortistic Hawiian Shredder.
These are just some of the phrases that are thrown around to explain the misunderstood characteristics of Clay Marzo. After spending a few days hanging and filming with Clay, Balaram stack (from LA) and quiksilver team manager aka 'Lost Enterprises wild child' Strider Wasilewski, I come to a few of my own conclusions concerning the 'Surfing Savant'.

Regarding Clays surfing: He's amazing to watch but extremely hard to film. He takes off write under the lip line making it real hard to get to the record button in time. Clay is either extremely motivated to surf or extremely unmotivated to surf. However when Clay shows up he most deffinently blows up, he is an insanely creative surfer to witness live.

Clay does'nt say much, He's fully wired on rap and poseses a quiet disposition. Clay seems like a kool cat who's just trying to make his way through this maze called life like the rest of us. Shortly after we scored this left hand barreling beachy to ourselves Clay proceeded to the Quiksilver Pro on the Goldcoast, where he scored over crowded waves and a first round elimination. Anyways was kool hangn with ya bra and i'm pretty sure these would have been some of the funnest waves of Clays trip. Aloha!!!

Pitta St Today: 4,5/6/2011.

Here is what was going on out Pitta St over the weekend. It was pumping and if you where in the write spot when a set marched through then you where in the runnings for an all time tube; however in saying that there was a lot of crew straightening out when they should have been locking in. Like they say the safest place to be on a pitching wave is in the tube.

This is what the waves where doing today at Coolum. There was a slight cross shore wind with 2-3ft waves, but to my suprise underground rippers where coming out of the wood works and somehow i've got a good feeling these would have been the best waves on offer!!!
